Our Urban Education Mission

In 1999, Northeastern University launched a new School of Education to prepare community-dedicated educators who foster the academic achievement and personal success of children and youth in diverse urban settings. This remarkable mission is based on the belief that teachers can and must make our cities triumphs of the human spirit. At an inaugural ceremony, then Provost David Hall said that the new school exists for a singular purpose, which is to improve the quality of education, and thus the quality of life, for those who live and work in urban communities.
