Partnerships

The mission of the School of Education is to prepare community teachers who foster the academic success and personal development of children and youth in diverse, urban settings. In order to fulfill its mission, the School has created a broad network of partnerships with both community agencies and the Boston Public Schools.

Through our community partnerships program, we place beginning education students in a variety of community-based programs to teach, tutor, and mentor Boston children, which allows them to gain an understanding of what it means to live and work in an urban community and to be accountable to that community as prospective professionals. In our school partnerships, Northeastern students and faculty become deeply involved in the life of the school while the school's teachers share their time and ideas to shape teacher preparation at Northeastern. The goal of our school partnerships is to create a learning community that fosters achievement for both Northeastern's future teachers and Boston's public school students.
