Master of Arts in Teaching

The Graduate School of Education offers programs in elementary and secondary education leading to the Master of Arts in Teaching for students with undergraduate degrees who are interested in careers in education. Students begin their MAT programs of study in late June or early September and can complete them in as little as one year. It is strongly recommended that students enter the program during the summer term. The courses in the program are integrated in learning modules which include monthly, day-long field experiences in Boston public school classrooms in the Fall semester, and student teaching in the Spring. Please see the course sequences below:

*Students must successfully pass all appropriate parts of the MTEL in order to continue with their cohort into the Spring Semester

Students may opt for 24-month, part-time MAT programs. Designed for those changing careers or unable to attend full-time, these programs are cohort and site-based. Courses are spread across four semesters and two summer sessions. The semester-long full-time practicum takes place during the spring semester of the second year.

In keeping with Northeastern's commitment to practice oriented teaching and learning, approximately half of the courses in the MAT program are taught by NU faculty and half by master public school teachers. This approach provides a vibrant blend of theory and practice and the development of teaching skills. For information about the MAT programs please email Jackie Ramos at graded@neu.edu. If you would like to apply, please visit http://www.spcs.neu.edu/register/grad/.
